I agree that the syntax I was suggesting for base+relative URIs isn’t great: I was noodling with something that would fit in with Turtle and SPARQL. CURIEs are a lot better.

I get your point about it not being (so much of) a problem for the URIs of the resources you’re describing because you don’t tend to abbreviate them. I think that’s the style that I’d adopt given the limitations of RDF “QNames”. It’s confusing for newcomers to this area (like myself) because many of the Turtle, SPARQL etc. examples do abbreviate them, so you tend to think that “QNames” “just work” when, in fact, they don’t.
