Re: Teaching XSLT 1.0

i agree that teaching xslt 2.0 has the advantage of having less things to apologize for. and you also have to probably not even mention why xslt 1.0 is so terribly limited in many regards.

on the other hand, i find xpath 2.0 and its data model a pretty daunting subject, teaching sequences and advanced xpath 2.0 expressions working on and with sequences is a hard task. and while xslt 1.0 maybe should be skipped completely, i think xpath 1.0 still is a good way to get a feel for what xpath is all about. but then when introducing xpath 2.0, you have to admit that it looks very similar, but eventually operates on a pretty different data model. not the easiest thing to work with for students just learning these languages…
