reCAPTCHA on comments

I’ve installed reCAPTCHA Drupal module as a way of combating the large amount of comment spam that I get on this blog, and to support the reCAPTCHA project. What a fantastic idea! I see that there’s already a term for using human expertise in a fun or transparent way to solve problems that can’t be solved by computers: bionic software.

ReCAPTCHAs are fun and add to human knowledge, but if you want to avoid them (they do take a little time to load) then create yourself a login. On the other hand, if you have some spare cycles, then you can do reCAPTCHAs on the reCAPTCHA site without creating lots of comments here.

Re: reCAPTCHA on comments

Re Captcha is one of the more blogger friendly systems in place. Many captchas contain hard to read characters and symbols, even if you try to reload the captcha. The sound option is also nice.

Re: reCAPTCHA on comments

Drupal seems to be highly susceptible to spam bots. I am glad to hear that Captcha drupal module. I think these modules are really important. I’ve seen a lot of really good blogs get pretty banged up by spam. good luck I hope installing the module helps you combat spam.

Re: reCAPTCHA on comments

Just testing ReCaptcha!

Is it possible to not

Is it possible to not require passing the CAPTCHA just for previewing and/or to remember that the CAPTCHA was passed during a previous preview? Having to pass it anew for every preview attempt is a serious pain.

Re: Is it possible to not

The CAPTCHA Drupal module doesn’t give that level of control, from what I can see. I’ll ask the maintainers.

Re: Is it possible to not

Looks like you made it behave. Thank you!

DaveP.

I can only assume you are positively trying to deter any visually impaired users Jeni?

At least with Norms captcha, a non visual reader has a chance.

Remember we’re all temporarily able bodied.

Don’t support please who don’t give a monkeys about accessibility.

Re: reCAPTCHA on comments

If you look at the reCAPTCHA form, you’ll see an ‘audio’ button that provides an audio-based alternative. And if you have a login, then you don’t ever have to do a reCAPTCHA; logins are not hard to create. That means there are two methods for visually impaired users to create comments here. And the content itself is never protected by a CAPTCHA.
